CONVICTED MONOPOLIST, Microsoft has decided that Google is an evil empire and its planning an anti-trust action over the search outfit's new web browser.
Chrome was released yesterday and instead of making added improvements to its IE8, Microsoft has decided that it is better to fight Google in the courts.
Volish insiders claim that Redmond is looking closely at whether Google oversteps any legal boundaries with the way it links its browser, its core search engine and its new office software.
Microsoft has had a lot of experience in anti-trust cases. It has been taken
to the cleaners in anti-trust cases across the world.
Now it seems to think that it can use that same weapon against Google. ยต

Not hard to believe that this could turn round and bite MS in the arse...
i lolled at this like old roman times, ..let the games begin..
MS cant cope with others bringing out functioning software! What will they do when FLOSS becomes the defacto monopoly - do a SCO and sue everyone? Buy shares in lawyers now!
Gee....how can one be a monopolist when there are others doing the same. But people CHOOSE to use Google. People do not CHOOSE to use WINDOWS, they are forced. Has Billy-boy been drinking?, as a monopoly is always about force....something he does for years and years. Billy, one can use your silly MSN-Search or Yahoo or one of the many others :-)
I guess their biggest challenge will be waiting until the browser stops being beta. Otherwise Google will be able to fend off the lawyers by claiming that they do not have a released product in the browser segment.
Google is just as much a monopolist as the Vole. You're not "forced" to use windows at all - there are plenty of alternatives. And yes, the world's default search provider (google is a verb now) binding us with its proprietary office software, email, browser, chat, blogs, twitters, social networking, photo sites is no better and no worse in antitrust terms than the Vole. I hope they get taken to the cleaners. Also, their browser is a waste of space.
I laughed so hard I almost peed myself! Microsoft claiming Google is a monopoly? As Bas said above, "people CHOOSE to use Google. People do not CHOOSE to use WINDOWS, they are forced". Also, Chrome is open source. If you like it, you can add whatever parts of it you like into your own browser.
ROFL, I never expected this from microsoft. This joke made my day. :D
google must have a meta-physical sign on it's back stating "sue me!" seems to be the way of the world these days, sue whomever has the biggest piggy bank. i think this is why the RIAA is giving up on suing the broke file sharers, they know it costs alot more in law-ish fees then in potential returns of the law suits and have also figured that scare/strongarm tactics dont really work in the web of the internet.
When I installed Google Chrome, I found that the default search in its Omnibar was yahoo.uk even though my search setting in FF3 is all google and from which Chrome had imported a whole bunch of stuff. To avoid precisely this type of insinuation me thinks.
Well, I laughed. When's the court date, April 1st?
it was meant as a compliment? (As in "You're one of us now, join the club").
QUOTE: Bas: "Billy drunk too much? Gee....how can one be a monopolist when there are others doing the same. But people CHOOSE to use Google. People do not CHOOSE to use WINDOWS, they are forced." You can always use LINUX, bill gates didn't force you to use windows -.-. If you buy from companies like Dell or HP, it is them that force you to!
You say that Google is proprietary.... do you know what proprietary means? People can look at Google's code that means that it is NOT proprietary... Don't get me wrong, absolute power corrupts absolutely but at least with Google you can change things how you want with MS you get sued if you dare change anything. Get a dictionary sometime and look up words before you use them.
Wow - that's a good one. Let's see - Microsoft forces hardware manufacturers to bundle their OS and apps on their servers in order to receive favorable pricing. Google does....... NOTHING! If you want Google products, you either download them or use them.
LOL i had to Google Google to find chrome, so how is that anti competitive, microsoft are shooting themselves in the foot here, they bundle WMP, IE, and wordpad, with windows, essentially knocking out competition, now that is anti competitive business practices, how is providing an alternative to IE bad practice. In that case Firefox is guilty, open office is guilty , Linux is guilty. Who is running microsoft these days, and who is letting people speak this utter crap. LOL
I'm amazed how many people show their ignorance by spouting whimsically about how Google is not a monopoly because people "choose" to use them. Well, the basic definition of a monopoly, is that you control 80% of market share of something. It makes no difference whether someone actively chooses to use it or it just comes pre-loaded by the manufacturer you bought it from. That said, if Google is abusing their monopoly powers, if they truly have a monopoly, they should be beaten with the same stick that Microsoft has been beaten with for the past 15 years. Competition is good. Fairness in enforcing the rules is also good. The more the zealots/people get it through their heads, the better.
Well, some people are just really forced to use windows.... As for myself, if all the games I play were to be available on linux, I would have absolutely no reason to use windows... especially when I recall the experience I had with ME II SP1a.
I was actually surprised that it did not look like they linked anything together. Lets see, it still uses WMP or whatever is your default media player to play movie clips. It used the default web search I had in IE, which was WebCrawler. It set the default page as a layout of recent sites, but when I set it to a default home page it was the same as I had for IE, MSN home page. I saw no request to install Google Desktop or any other Google application. I saw no ties at all with Google Office or G-mail. It added nothing to my favorites. It also looked better than IE and ran better.
@db cool, go ahead and post a link to their search engine's source code then. Or for Google Earth... Plus?
Microsoft couldn't win a monopoly case in a hundred years.
No such thing as bad publicity, bad competition, or bad anti-monopoly claims.
Anti-trust, lol, first you have to visit google's website, then you have to download chrome, then install it, then run it, hardly being forced into using it are you? They then obviously missed the part where when you install it and run it for the first time, you are prompted whether you want to use Google as the default search engine, or not. Should get chucked out at the first hearing tbh.
I installed Chrome on an HP I had lying around, and it kept the default search engine as AOL Search, and just informed me that if I wanted to make it google I could go to the options and change it. Besides, is it possible to have open source software as a monopoly?
Haa haaa haaaa LOL haa haa haaaaaaaa..................Haa haaa haaaa LOL haa haa haaaaaaaa............wipe tears from eyes, Haa haaa haaaa LOL haa haa haaaaaaaa.
LOL! Microsoft claims Google is monopoly? that's the best joke in my life. Microsoft charge us for $300 bloodly money for Operating System and Google offer free of charge for chrome Browse. But it is good news for us, Microsoft smell fear now. Let see what competition will do next........
If your argument is that google is "chosen", just try and find an independent and functional internet search. Doesn't exist. Yes, there is a big difference between google and microsoft that makes google far more insidious- one source, even if not abusing its power (and there's plenty of evidence it has) of all our information, practically our world, is far more dangerous than one operating system or software.
Microsoft should look on the bright side. Chrome will likely make any future antitrust cases against Microsoft harder to argue. See http://jolt.unc.edu/blog/2008/09/11/google%E2%80%99s-knight-shining-chrome-microsoft%E2%80%99s-worst-nightmare
