T-MOBILE HAS TURNED the whole of Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 into one giant Wi-Fi hotspot.
This means all those discomgoogolated souls will be able to more easily get their internet fix while waiting for their luggage to never arrive.
The blanket hotspot is T-Mobile's largest in the UK and spans the equivalent of approximately 50 football pitches, meaning that self-important blowhards can now work, read emails, check up on colleagues and find out how late their flight has been delayed this time, without being relegated to a dedicated Wi-Fi zone.
The service promises internet access speeds of up to 8Mbps for the 27 million people who are expected to be squeezed through the terminal annually.
Access will be free to T-Mobile's mobile broadband customers, and those on voice plans can opt to pay via their monthly bill at a charge of 75p for ten minutes' access (£4.50 per hour). Those heathens who dare use a different provider will have to cough up £5 for one hour's access, or £10 for 24 hours, payable by credit card.
Let's hope the launch of this Wi-Fi service isn't as wobbly as that of Terminal 5 itself. µ
What a complete and utter RIP OFF!! £4.50 for 1 hour, even the most expensive home broadband packages cost A LOT less per hour! T-Mobile must be making 100s of £ worth of profit, greedy bastids! According to Google calculator: Average hours in a month: 730.484398 Imagine an overly expensive 12 month broadband package costs £49.99 / month. £49.99 / 730.484398 = 0.068434042 So at best, it doesn't cost them more than 10p per hour. All thats needed is an access point in each departure lounge, the wired ethernet network should already exist as its a new building.
Have not the police and security people realized that this WiFi could be used by terrorists to coordinate attacks on terminal 5?
...Of course before the Wi-Fi Hotspot mbile phones didn't work in the terminal......oh hang on!
