NINTENDO HAS announced an upgrade to the Wii's Wiimote.
In an announcement that hasn't been rumoured or leaked prior to Nintendo's press release, the Japanese based games company has unveiled a small dongle that fits at the base of the Wiimote - which provides extra-sensitivity and accuracy to the original Wiimote controller.
Nintendo has dubbed the accessory 'Motionplus' (please note, the INQ does not capitalise letters for marketeers).
Apparently the device '..again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space' - which we thought was the premise of the original controller.
It's stated that the Motionplus addition allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, and will provide a 'true 1:1 response' in a user's game play.
Here's the official press-shot in all its glory:
Nintendo expect to make further announcements at E3 tomorrow.
The INQ wonders if this is pre-E3 announcement was intended to shift the focus from the rumoured Xbox 360 controller, that hasn't actually been announced (yet).

So instead of fixing a broken product, they will charge for an add-on product that serves to nothing but 'improve'. Given the mentality level of those who spend money on stupid electronic things that demand you to pathetically dance alone in front of your TV, this will sell "like hot cakes". In the other hand, a Xbox motion sensor -- for those not proficient enough to play games with a proper static gamepad -- looks like a Wii killer.
Yeah Mycelo- how pathetic playing with your kids and having fun. Yawn.
mycelo, it isn't a broken product. They are offering an upgrade - if you want it buy it, if not... I'm glad we will be able to still use our current controllers that are suited for all size hands! Not like the xbox controllers designed for people with either freakishly large hands or more than one pair of arms.
Anything that will keep the kids from putting the Wee in the blender, is wiison 2b alone.
