Microsoft talks up Xbox 360

Sony goes all-a-quiver. Not!
Tuesday, 15 July 2008, 08:38

A VOLE claimed Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console will significantly outsell Sony's PlayStation 3 over the lifetime of the consoles.

The software giant reckons sales of the Xbox 360 have
already outstripped those of the PS3 by 5 million units, although of course it did have a year's head start.

"Xbox 360 will sell more consoles worldwide this generation than PlayStation 3," Don Mattrick, a volish veep told hacks gathered at E3 in Los Angeles.

Microsoft recently slashed its 20GB Xbox 360 Pro from $349 to $299 and is releasing a new 60GB model for $349, a price point $100 lower than Sony's 40GB PlayStation 3. However, UK gamers are out of luck, as the 60GB Xbox and the newly priced 20GB model are available only in the States.

In addition to games, Microsoft's Xbox Live online platform will soon offer more traditional entertainment: telly. The firm has recently inked a deal with American television and film conglomerate NBC Universal to provide streaming TV programs and films.

The firm has also announced a partnership with movie rental company Netflix Inc. that will allow subscribers to stream up to 10,000 titles via the Xbox 360.

Will it all help trounce the PS3? Maybe, but we suspect not. A Blu-ray drive could help a bit though... µ

Who cares about Blu-Ray?

The Blu-Ray drive is hardly setting the world's PS3 sales on fire, it's purely brand loyalty that is fuelling PS3 sales at the moment. Maybe Sony will have some interesting games to announce, but at present MS seem to have the best line-up of the two, especially now they've secured a version of FFXIII for the 360 as well. And I suspect Gears 2 will have Halo 3 levels of hype this Christmas... All the PS3 has at present is Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 which are sequels to fairly mediocre games, and Little Big Planet which is more of a level editor than a game.

Wii??

Wii are you talking about? The Wii is far more popular then the Xbox or PS3. I'm waiting for months to get a Wii-Fit, they simply can't deliver, too many people wanting it. Everywhere you go, sold out. But if you want an xBox or PS3 they practically beg you to PULEASE buy one! Hahahaha... Wii is cool, Wii is hip...xBox and PS3 are not.

For Gods Sake

All Microsoft do is boast "Oh our console will sell more" or "Our Consoles has sold more than PS3". Of course it has it's been out 1yr longer than PS3 for gods sake so it's going to sell more ain't it in the total lifetime. But.... Currently it isn't selling that well compared to PS3 and introducing another 360 SKU is stupid when they could have done it instead of the Arcade unit.

Waah! Life is not fair!

Netflix + XBOX = awesome. Hands down, awesome - until our ISPs start throttling our bandwidth to below our guaranteed levels of course. The title is for you, Dave C. Life is not fair. MS got the 360 out a year earlier than the PS3 due to 2 factors: they had their act much more together, and they were able to control costs better to get it out at an acceptable loss level. Who cares that XBOX was out a year before its competitor - it's called first to market advantage. Yes, they have over 5m more units out there than PS3 and however you slice it, it's still called an advantage, no matter how Sony or fanbois want to paint the facts. BTW, how is the Sony on-demand movies doing? Have they signed up any other studios to distribute content to PS3s other than Sony? LOL. pathetic.
