Reuters story is Iphone ad

Gutterwatch Iphoney

PERHAPS REUTERS WAS ONCE a great news agency.

But now the Brit-based outfit has taken to running advertisements for the Iphone which masquerade as editorial.

Under the title New Iphone music to users' ears, "writer" Antony Bruno reckons that, thanks to the launch of the App Store on Itunes, "Iphone users can download a host of applications to add new functions to the device. Many of them are music-oriented and all are made specifically for the Iphone."

Oooh. How exciting!

The advert goes on to list a bunch of Iapps available from the online shop. The piece is spread over three web pages, designed no doubt to boost the number of two-button mouse clicks the outfit can get from two-brain celled users.

We could link to this sleazy apology of a piece which appeared on Reuters pages yesterday, but that would rather defeat the point wouldn't it?

Oi Reuters! How about the story we're about to run about how the gadget doesn't work properly. Now that's a proper story. µ

Has anyone...

Seen the UK TV advert for the 3G iPhone?

It starts off with a mysterious box being carried in with the voice over saying "At last, a phone to beat the iPhone"... And then they reveal the new 3G iPhone.

I'm really not quite sure how that stands with the ASA, surely that's insinuating that the original iPhone was an unbeaten triumph, as opposed to a a very dated bit of hardware with a flashy user interface.

Did U Watch Euronews this morning?

Euronews is following Reuters down the gutter.... at least in my native language!

They said that LG positive 2nd quarter result was mainly due to the stunning impact of Iphone in Europe......

Shall I say more?

you still

don't know how to spell iPhone: I suspect this is a regrettable disability that will launch you into a meteoric journalistic career.
cheers!

Pot, kettle and black, i'm sure one of you in the Inq machine has the NVQ to work it out.

Out of Context

Wow, not sure what your problem with Reuters is, but your story is a bit out of context. The article you reference orginally appeared in Billboard magazine, which Reuters just picked up. A good portion of Reuters' stories are picked up from other publications, not written by Reuters staff.

When placed in its original context of Billboard, the story comes off more as an info-graphic on the music applications available to the newly launched iPhone, and not so much of an ad as it may appear when running out of context in Reuters.

To Azazello

Spelling and capitalisation are two different things. Misspelling Iphone would be "Ifown", whereas mis-capitalising would be something like "IpHOne".

But, in this case, it is neither, as the Inq has clearly pointed out. It is done intentionally to avoid buying into a company's marketing ploys, which, incedentally, was the point of the article anyway.

Try paying closer attention.

Wonderful Iphone

The only thing wrong with an Iphone is, naturally, Itunes.

Its like being told you can have anything you want in the whole world beyond your wildest dreams, but in the small print it says "To qualify you must drink a pint of diarrhoea everyday for the rest of your life".
