Leaked Ofcom blueprint bashes Beeb

ITV may be freed from public service obligations

OFCOM SECRETS have again slipped out, as latest report suggests that the poor old BBC may have to ‘donate’ some of its licence fee to other channels.

This leaked information suggests the BBC’s ‘excess’ licence money will be given, yes given, to other broadcasters for public service by 2012.

To make things even worse for BBC, ITV is estimated to save £40 million a year according to the new plans, by dropping the amount of public service from their remit.

This means a cutting of the amount of regional news, current affairs and programmes produced outside London the commercial network has to broadcast.

But it looks like cloudy skies ahead for Ofcom, as this report will not only put BBC in conflict will the regulator but also cause problems with the MPs and broadcasting unions who campaigned against these plans.

Ofcom believes, "that intervention will continue to be required to support public service content beyond the BBC, and that given the pressures on the funding of the existing model, new sources of funding will be required."

The regulator claims further that, “No decision has been made yet with regards to ITV’s request to reduce its regional news production.” And, “The future funding of the BBC is being considered as part of Ofcom’s wide-ranging review of public service broadcasting”. µ

parasites...

the bbc is more trouble than its worth
it just generates problems at customer and political levels.

i would be elated for it to be subscription only tv - we'll soon see just how many 'customers' show their loyalty. the only reason the bbc has been sustained over the years is because it has the power to prosecute people for owning their own tv if they dont pay the bbc for the priviledge!!

its a backward system run by backward people.

oh and while i'm at it, sack all the overpaid idle rich actors who's only skill is 'pretending to be someone they are not'

Giveaway

The BBC provides a hell of a lot for your money, can the same be said of ITV? Why on earth should they get any public funding, surely the plebeian crap they broadcast generates enough advertising revenue anyway?

Marxist England

It saddens me to see the country of my ancestors (Sherwood, Nottinghamshire), in the degenerate grips of Marxists. People, it is time to throw off the shackles of your oppressive, dictatorial bureaucrats and their lackeys, the so-called "elected officials", and restore England to her rightful place as the world's leading democracy. Three cheers for the Queen, and for the Magna Carta!

What's that? You're too busy watching the Beeb to care? Well, then, the hell with you all.

Here, here...

I also think it's long due that the BBC became subscription-only, like Sky.

Just axe the licence fee and let the BBC compete on level ground with everyone else.

Punctation

The BBC taught me to punctuate. For that alone, it deserves to live.

BTW, The Daily Mail called they need their reactionary Beeb basher back.

I don't believe you guys?

What the hell is going on? I don't mind paying the licence fee because of the quality of programming we get! If it were let to the free market I would end up with shite like Big Brother and other such crap every night. It gives the other channels something to 'gun' for...
To think that we would be in a world like the United States, where just about everything on TV is biased, commercially backed, utter (bigger shite) - I couldn't bare it!
Admittedly, they do make some great programs, but who the hell wants to surf through a million channels to get to the gems?

Nuff said... now leave the Beeb alone!

BBC2 and BBC3 are great for comedy,

ITV is rubbish for comedy apart from Harry Hill.

But apart from the comedy the BBC is a bit dull especially late mornings with all the cash in the car boot sale sell your house and move to the country shows.

It's worth having them for the comedy, and maybe the car boot sell homes programmes interest the old fuddy duddies.

But BBC morning news Declan (accountant) and the smary git Bill somethingorother should either have a fight or stop being hitting each other with verbal handbags. It's unmanly and pathetic to see Bill smarmly winding up Declan, and Declan more often than not reacting to it. A pair of annoying boys.
