Samsung promises real internet on your TV
(Channel) Change is nigh
THEY HAVE FINALLY MANAGED IT – the internet has migrated from the PC all the way over to the television, amazing isn't it?
Samsung believes it's cracked this great move, and will announce at the IFA industry fair in Germany it's partnership with Yahoo to provide a new integrated internet access service in its TVs.
This service will be named the Widget Channel and will be powered by Yahoo Widget Engine, allowing couch potatoes to enjoy small internet applications designed to enhance the traditional TV experience.
The service will provide news, finance and weather information via the remote control.
Developers will also be able to use JAVASCRIPT, XML, HTML and Adobe Flash technology to write TV applications for the platform through the Widget Channel, expanding the compatibility and power of PC application developer programs to TV and related CE devices.
For once it seems the European's aren't getting shafted on this one, joining Canada, Australia and Singapore by the end of this year on Samsung's Series 7, 8 and 9 TVs.
For years Samsung has sat back and watched others fail to achieve this miracle, not due to technological problems however, but because we slobs couldn't part with traditional viewing, but the company now believes we're ready for change.
The content will be accessible via an integrated Ethernet port or a Samsung wireless LAN adapter, connecting the viewer through their broadband service.
The head of the digital media division at Samsung Electronics, Dr. Park said, "We want televisions to be centre of the home network."
Persistent Park has looked into his crystal ball and recons that in around five years TVs will be connected wirelessly to a range of devices which will download applications such as pictures, video streaming, games and music – we'll see. µ

The MAFIAA's Pick
A long time ago, the Internet was designed as network which enables communication in all directions. What Samsung presents is only a couch potato version of the Internet based on a crippled PC. Consumers surf the web, watch a movie, digest propaganda, pay and get fat. I am sure the MAFIAA will be pleased about this kind of "real internet".Media Center Has New TV Channel
Kids will LOVE Widgets on TV. There so Small & Flat. Sounds Like another step UP in advancing TV experience.I Just caught one line in Microsoft eMail, So Checked It Out. Go to Ultimate Media Center, Go one step below Tv&Internet to MEDIA, Click on it & BeeJing, Olympics Channel appears by TVtronics & MSN. Go thru hassle of sign up, its seamless, then don't get blustered by useage, Once You Get it, It pFAR Improvement & highlights are Much More intresting back to back. Anyway if you have Vista Ultimate its worth effort, Real Qual Stuff. Click on Opening & Closing to My Library, then over day about 35 mb of show comes Your way, then hit logo on desktop when ready & you get your choice of many menus of Action. Better Than HardKill or BurningCities for Games or adventure.
