Intel chokes on Atom

Serious bottleneck reported

INTEL HAS REPORTEDLY encountered difficulty meeting the increased demand for its popular Atom processor.

The shortage has forced Asustek to swap the Atom for the 900Mhz Celeron M 353 in two Eee PC models.

An Intel spokesman told PC World that testing constraints had limited Atom availability, but did not know when the bottleneck would be eased.

Distribution of the chip could improve when the company completes construction of a $1 billion test and assembly facility in Vietnam. The plant is expected to begin production some time next year. µ
