HP HAS REVEALED that its new ProLiant BL495c blades will be powered by Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors.

According to HP, the new blades are the first specifically to host virtual machines. The design is set out to cut down on the performance bottlenecks often seen in heavily virtualised systems.

"Businesses continue to face memory and I/O constraints as they implement virtualisation solutions across more mission-critical workloads," explained Patrick Patla, general manager for the Server and Workstation Business of AMD.

Patla reckons that, thanks to the processor' Direct Connect Architecture and AMD virtualisation technology, HP has picked the best boy for the job.
