JUST A COUPLE of weeks after Microsoft announced it would be easing its licensing policy, VMware today announced that its ESX hypervisor has now qualified under the Microsoft Server Virtualisation Validation Programme (SVVP).

The VMware ESX 3.5 update 2 will actually be the first hypervisor in the Volish programme, allowing VMware punters running Windows Server and Volish applications get access to joint support from both Mightysoft and Vmware.

Gratefully gushing about his Volish competitor, come strategic partner, Bogomil Balkansky, senior director of product marketing at VMware noted “our relationship with Microsoft underscores how far virtualisation has come”.

Along with cooperative technical support, the Vole’s programme will supposedly also allow VMware and others to test and validate their virtualisation software to run Windows Server 2008 and previous versions of Windows Server.

Gloating only a very little bit, Zane Adam, senior director of integrated virtualisation at Mightysoft noted, “We are pleased that VMware has joined the Server Virtual Validation Program and along with the other participants can bring the benefits of interoperability to our customers.”

Of course, the Mighty vole is hoping that by easing restrictions, its very own Hyper-V hypervisor for x64 systems, and a major VMware competitor, will get a huge boost. µ
